Friday meme time

Phew, that was a short week! And boy am I looking forward to my first weekend at home for  a month. I've had a busy week on the review front, posting the following:

Lessons of Evil by Linda Myers
The Final Winter by Iain Rob Wright
Haunted Ground: Ghost Photos from the Gettysburg Battlefield by Hollister Ann Grant
The Accidental Father by Greg Williams,
and last but not least
The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu

I'm also very excited to have launched my first ever giveaway, to celebrate hitting the 200 follower milestone. Take a look and enter by completing the form if you haven't already done so!

Book Blogger HopMoving on to my fave memes, first of all Sarah's Freebie Friday. Due to time zone differences I'll add the link to the specific post later but in the meantime have a nose at her blog - http://webbiegrrl.blogspot.com/ EDIT - here's the link for the specific post http://networkedblogs.com/kIRaI Sarah has included more new freebies for your delectation.

At crazy-for-books.com Jenn is asking:

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

There aren't many genres I won't read but I do sometimes wonder if I'm missing out on some of the YA fantasy books and series. Vampires and werewolves just aren't my thing but when I hear people raving about them I wonder if I'm wrong.

Last but not least it's Follow Friday over at Parajunkee.com The question is:

Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

A while back there was a question about which authors we'd like to meet on one of the memes, so  again my answer would include Clive Cussler, I think he'd be fascinating. I suppose JK Rowling is a bit predictable but she would be amazing to shoot the breeze with, and for the third author...This is hard! I'm going to say Ben Elton, I love his books and he is a comedy genius.

I used to feel that way about werewolves! I couldn't read anything about them until more recently. Even now I can only stand some books about them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I also picked J. K. Rowling as one of the authors I would love to meet.

I agree with you regarding the vampires. I just can't relate to that genre. Thank you for stopping by.

Heh, there are plenty of books in YA that aren't focused on Vampires in Werewolves. YA definitely runs the full gamut of books although yes there are a disproportionate number of vampire and werewolf books.

You might consider The Hunger Games.

Yeah, I guess you are in the minority as far as that genre goes, but it's ok. :)

as for your 3 authors, JK Rowling is predictable - but hey who wouldnt want to talk with one of the richest women in the world?

Hopping through. I'd love to meet JK Rowling. She's such a special person. I've never heard of Ben Elton. What did he write?

Alison, Ben Elton is a bit of a national institution. He started as a comedian, appeared in and wrote various TV shows (including being a writer on Blackadder) and then turned to writing (I think in that order) His books are humorous satires on social issues and phenomena, inculding Dead Famous (reality tv) Chart Throb (tv talent shows) Grid Locked (cars & the environment) among many others.

Sniffly Kitty, I do read some YA, it's just those I don't enjoy. I have been meaning to read The Hunger Games but last time I looked wasn't available on kindle here and library doesn't have it.

Thanks everyone for hopping by, will make sure to return any visits.

Hey, hopping through!

I felt I was missing out on YA fantasy too so I started City of Bones by Cassandra Clare...for the third time, but this time I finished it and read the rest of the series in a few days. I loved it! But i'm still about reluctant to pick up a new fantasy series!

I hadn't heard of Ben Elton before--but if he's got great comedy going for him, I ought to pick up his work. :-)
